Church of Scotland Consultation

posted 20 Apr 2010 08:41 by banchory church

On Tuesday 27 April at 7.30 pm the Kirk Session will meet in the Centenary Hall to discuss and vote on the question of the ordination of people in the Church of Scotland who are in same-sex relationships.
The meeting will be open to anyone in the church who would like to attend, and everyone present will be allowed to speak. Only the elders will be able to vote, and the vote will be by secret ballot.

Anyone who hopes to attend will find it helpful to read the 2 documents which can be downloaded from the link - General Assembly reports 2007 and the challenge to unity, and the Church of Scotland Consultation Paper, which outlines the issues to be discussed.

Please pray for wisdom in this discussion and vote, which will influence future policy in the church of Scotland as a whole.

Please see the attached documents.

Men's prayer breakfast

Banchory Christians Together
Men's Breakfast Group
Friday 16th April 7-8am Banchory Lodge Hotel

"A chance for reflection before the business day begins"
This year so far we have discussed the topics:
"Why have the number of men in Church dwindled"
"Truth in the market Place"
"What is worship"

The next men's breakfast group will happen on Friday 16th April, as usual, at 7-8am at the Banchory Lodge Hotel. You're most welcome to join us and if there are others that may be interested, please pass this on. (Normally the 3rd Friday of the month but we may stop for the summer so please check) Please sign up as there are already 70 men who have noted an interest in this group and have really enjoyed coming along although on the day the group is normally around 30 and growing. We split into tables of around 6 to 8 and discuss the topic with primer questions.

If you are intending to come, please let us know, as we need to dovetail numbers with our order of bacon butties from the hotel. Indeed, if it is feasible, letting myself or Ian Davy have the money for the ticket beforehand would be most helpful, otherwise please bring it along with you and place it in an envelope with your name marked on the envelope so that it is easy for me to tick off who has paid.
There is a challenge for Ian and I, as the reality of 'no shows' has left us in the red when it comes to paying the bill. Our proposal from here on, is to charge £6 (Rather than the £5.50 which it is costing us per head). This will allow a float to be held that can cover no-shows. If we find we develop a big surplus we can either reduce the charge or donate to charity. Hopefully this will take some of the stress out of aligning numbers to the bill.

In summary, please let me know whether you will be coming, and if you will be paying on the morning. Also, any changes or additions to e-mail distribution list.

Look forward to seeing you.
